If you’ve been interested in the fun and exciting LoRa mesh projects exploding in popularity, you’re not alone! In SoCal, there are hundreds of nodes creating impressive regional networks, all from low cost devices!
In this class, you’ll solder together your own Mesh node, and learn to flash Meshcore and Meshtastic, the two most popular off-grid messaging projects out there with huge and active networks in SoCal.
What is Meshtastic?
Meshtastic is a popular off-grid mesh networking application that allows you to easily build mesh networks independent of cellular or Wi-Fi. By installing an app or navigating to a website, you can connect to your node and send messages between other nearby nodes. In SoCal, there are hundreds of nodes to retransmit your messages!
What is Meshcore?
Meshcore is also an off-grid LoRa mesh network, but with improvements over Meshtastic that allow it to scale better when networks become busy. Meshcore uses routes (more like Tor) to create paths between distant nodes, with a much higher maximum hop limit. That makes Meshcore better for more reliable messaging, and capable of relaying messages farther while reading traffic.
Join us to build your own Nibble LoRa node, which includes a screen, buttons, and environmental sensor (temperature, pressure, and humidity) for creating a remote weather station! The Nibble is breadboard-compatible, and allows for controlling anything remotely over the mesh, or controlling your node via serial output!
If you’ve been wanting to learn about mesh networks, come join the hundreds of other nodes all transmitting today in LA by building your own!
