Sans son insouciance, sans ses réticences à sa fonction de Reine, sans Trianon, sans ses favorites, ses coquetteries, ses diamants ; sans les décris de la cour grossis par les pamphlets et les caricatures, sans la Révolution et la croyance que le sang versé concourait au progrès, elle aurait certainement poursuivi son existence frivole et ne serait pas morte suppliciée. Comment une Reine adorée de tout un peuple perdit elle son affection avant de mourir de sa haine ? Comment, celle qui incarnait le symbole de la royauté, aida-t-elle à en précipiter la chute ? Le ballet de Thierry Malandain retrace le parcours de Marie-Antoinette à Versailles : de son arrivée à la cour, jour de son mariage et de l’inauguration de l’Opéra Royal, à son départ en octobre 1789, qui l’emporte vers son destin… Magnifique spectacle créé en 2019 à l’Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles.
