The Puerto Morelos reef is part of the barrier reef known as the “Great Western Atlantic Reef Belt, better known as the Great Mayan Reef, considered the second largest barrier reef in the world. By official decree it is declared a natural protected area and is recognized as a national park reef in Puerto Morelos. The reef has a depth of approximately 2 meters high.
