One of the key highlights of this tour is the chance to observe the elusive and powerful Biggs Killer Whales (also known as transient orcas), which are often spotted in the Salish Sea. Biggs Killer Whales are apex predators that hunt other marine mammals such as seals and sea lions. Watching these magnificent creatures in action — tracking their prey, working as a pod — is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Another unforgettable sight on our tours are the majestic Humpback Whales. Known for their size, impressive fluke (tail) dives, and acrobatic breaches, Humpback Whales are a true marvel of nature. These giants, which can reach lengths of up to 60 feet and weigh up to 40 tons, are often seen in the waters around Cowichan Bay as they feed on the nutrient-rich waters of the Salish Sea. Watching a Humpback breach or slap its tail is a sight that will stay with you forever.

While Biggs Killer Whales and Humpback Whales are the main focus, the marine ecosystem of the Salish Sea is teeming with fascinating wildlife that you’ll encounter throughout the journey. Ocean EcoVentures offers a complete wildlife experience, and the waters of Cowichan Bay are home to an abundance of marine life that will leave you in awe.
