Full description
Let’s explore Atlanta history! Wrapping around Atlanta is a 22 mile path, connecting 45 neighborhoods and it all started with a thesis and a building. Join us as we talk about the “whys” of Ponce City Market and the Beltline. Why was a building of this size built on this street, in this city and why, decades later, did it fade from public memory only to be rediscovered? This 130 year old story will begin outside the Ponce City Market building, moving to different vantage points to tell its intriguing story then move onto the Beltline. Once on the Beltline we will talk about the structures that remain from the early 20th century and some that are now gone. Some of the topics discussed are Ponce de Leon Springs, Spiller Park, trains, art, music and shopping. We will end talking about the Old Fourth Ward Park and time permitting we will visit this charming spot tucked away from the energy of the Beltline. The tour will last about an hour and a half, begin and end at Ponce City Market, cover less than a mile and elevators are available if desired. It is a great tour to get acquainted with the this vibrant area of downtown Atlanta. Located near Piedmont Park and Inman Park the food and entertainment options post tour are endless.
We will meet at the Ponce City Market on the North Avenue Side of the Market. I will be on the sidewalk between to the Nike Store (called “Nike Live”) and the Rejuvenation Store. You’ll see the signs for this and a nearby restaurant, Pancake Social, from North Avenue. As you enter the parking area from North Avenue, you will see the corner where I will meet you. To use your GPS to find the entrance to this parking lot from North Avenue, search for 650 North Avenue, Atlanta, 30308.
