Meet your guide at the Port Terminal, water taxi terminal, or hotel lobby in Belize City. Then, drive 30 miles north, passing through Belize City and rural communities. Arrive at the Maya site of Altun Ha, which dates from 200 BC to 900 AD.

Explore the site’s 5 major temples and several residential mounds, all set in a natural forest. Learn about the many priestly tombs that have been found here, with each burial laden with masks, stingray spines, flint objects, manatee bones with carvings, and ceremonial clay vessels used in bloodletting rituals.

Visit the major structure known as the Sun Temple, which was the site of a major burial find of Belize’s precious object, the Jade Head. Climb to the summit of the temple, where there is a sacrificial altar.
