Discover the wonders of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park with a professional naturalist guide. This is a self-drive experience: you bring your own vehicle, and your guide joins you in the passenger seat for the journey. Meet in Liberia City, welcome your guide aboard, and enjoy a scenic countryside drive as they share stories about local history, culture, and the volcanic landscapes you’re about to explore.

Upon arrival at the park, take a moment to refresh and use the restrooms before setting out. The adventure begins on a two-mile loop trail designed to showcase the park’s remarkable contrasts. Stroll beneath lush tropical forest canopies where monkeys, toucans, iguanas, and other wildlife are often spotted. Pause to admire a seasonal waterfall tumbling through greenery—perfect for photos.

As the trail curves into the park’s dry forest, the terrain changes dramatically—steaming fumaroles bubble from the earth, mud volcanoes gurgle, and the scent of sulfur hints at the geothermal power beneath your feet. Your guide interprets the ecosystems, volcanic activity, and cultural stories tied to this rugged landscape, offering a richer understanding of Costa Rica’s natural heritage.

After the hike, settle back into your vehicle with your guide for the return drive to Liberia City. Along the way, your guide can recommend favorite local restaurants if you’d like to stop for authentic Costa Rican cuisine.

This experience includes the national park entrance fee, toll road access, a bilingual naturalist guide, and one bottle of water per person—everything you need for an immersive and worry-free volcano adventure, while enjoying the flexibility of your own transportation.
