Discover the highlights of Jamaica on this full-day tour from Montego Bay. See the Rose Hall Great House (18th-century plantation home) that was once owned by the infamous plantation owner Annie Palmer, the wicked witch of Rose Hall. Hear about her gruesome death in 1831 and how the house became haunted. The Greenwood Great House, Columbus Park, Runaway Bay, Ocho Rios, and the history behind them (pass by without stopping). Hike the refreshing and adventurous Dunn’s River Falls, followed by a once-in-a-lifetime educational tour of the Luminous Lagoon.
Start your tour with a scenic ride along the pristine coastline from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios. Along the way, there are many historic sites that are on display. Due to the limited time, we will not stop at these sites, however, your tour guide will drive slowly by while telling you about their rich history. In some cases, photo ops may be possible.
Continue past the Greenwood Great House, a plantation home constructed in the early 18th century. Admire the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere of the house perched on the hill and learn about its rich history and architecture.
Next, drive through the town of Discovery Bay, where you will find Columbus Park. This is where the Spaniards landed when they discovered Jamaica in the year 1494.
Continue to Runaway Bay, a naturally beautiful area that sits between the coastline and the lush green mountains. Hear about the history of the town and take photos of the scenic area.
Visit the world-famous Dunn’s River Falls. Meet your guide, go through the briefing, sign the waiver form, and get ready to climb the falls. Walk down to the beach where the tour starts and climb the 600-foot falls. Stop at pools along the way for photo shoots. If you are unable to complete the climb, there are exit points along the way. After your experience of Dunn’s River Falls, we will make a stop a one of our popular Jerk Centers (Scotchies or similar) where you will purchase your lunch. The more choices are jerk chicken, jerk pork, jerk fish, etc.
Finally, the Glistening Waters in Falmouth is home to the rare wonder, the Luminous Lagoon adventure. As you get on the terrace, you will be greeted by a Glistening Waters Representative who welcomes you and takes you directly to the bar, where you are served a healthy drink of rum punch or fruit punch (take your pick). You will also be feted briefly with age-old Jamaican dance moves – a mix of the African and British dance cultures. At the end of the entertainment, which is about 6:45pm you will board your boat (The boats have low sides and outboard engines) and set out for a one-hour adventure. Get your cameras ready to take photos of the fish as they pass by with a glow! Word has it that if you swim in the water, it makes you look 10 years younger! Be sure to take your swimsuits and towels along with you in case you wish to take a short swim. Your captain is very knowledgeable and will give you all the history – feel free to engage.
