About the award recipient: Bronwyn Eyre
Bronwyn Eyre is Saskatchewan’s former Minister of Energy and first female Justice and Attorney General. Her principled leadership and steadfast defence of individual liberty embody the values this award was created to honour.
Bronwyn grew up in Saskatoon. She considered a career as a dancer and attended the professional schools of the National Ballet of Canada and Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She went on to attend McGill University (Faculty Scholar) and the University of Saskatchewan (magna cum laude, 1993; LLB, 1996, Law Review). She speaks French, German, and Italian.
She is former radio broadcaster, university lecturer, and senior writer for UK-based legal publications Commercial Lawyer and European Lawyer magazines. She was also a Saskatoon public school board trustee. In 2016, she became a provincial Saskatchewan MLA and also served as Minister of Advanced Education, Education, Status of Women, and Minister for SaskEnergy and SaskWater.
She currently hosts a bi-monthly energy podcast and is a columnist for the Western Standard. Her columns have also appeared in the Epoch Times, Toronto Sun, Winnipeg Sun, and Calgary Herald. She is a senior fellow with the Aristotle Foundation, MEI (formerly Montreal Economic Institute), and is returning to the law.
The Cartier–Macdonald Award is named in honour of Fathers of Confederation Georges-Étienne Cartier and Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald, whose partnership was foundational to Canadian Confederation and the development of Canada’s constitutional order. They symbolize the legal and political vision that underpins Canada’s commitment to federalism, civil liberties, and the rule of law — values this award seeks to recognize and uphold. The annual award and reception will serve as the annual CCF gathering, uniting supporters, donors, and trailblazers committed to freedom and strengthening the connections that sustain the CCF’s work.
