After meeting at the arranged pick-up point, the tour proceeds to the Beshbarmag Mountain range in the Siyazan District of Azerbaijan. The drive takes 90 minutes from central Baku. Upon arrival, guests visit the peak area of the mountain, positioned directly beside the main highway linking Baku with the northern regions, making the formation highly visible and easy to access. “Beshbarmag,” meaning Five Fingers, refers to the mountain’s distinctive rock towers that resemble an open hand rising from the landscape. The peak stands at 382 meters above sea level and is recognized as one of the country’s major pilgrimage and observation points. Beshbarmag is strongly associated with regional spiritual traditions. Visitors encounter a small shrine zone near the upper section, used historically by Sufi dervishes and other spiritual communities. Local folklore attributes several historic and religious legends to the site, including accounts linking the mountain to the post-flood journey of Noah’s Ark. The surrounding environment features exposed rock masses, limited vegetation, and ecological characteristics typical of the Caspian-Caucasus transition zone. The ascent is moderately steep in selected areas but manageable, leading to expansive views over the Caspian coastline and the Siyazan lowlands. Guests spend around 30 minutes at the mountain with scientific and historical explanation provided by their private guide.
The tour continues to the Candy Cane Mountains, located in the Khizi District, reached by a 50-minute drive from Beshbarmag. Positioned near the town of Khizi along the Baku-Quba highway, this geological formation is known for its vivid red, pink, white and orange mineral bands. These pigment variations are produced through long-term oxidation processes affecting iron-rich sediments. The striped patterns intensify under low-angle sunlight and represent a visually distinct example of Azerbaijan’s geological diversity. The formations consist primarily of clay and shale layers originating from Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary deposits. The color bands result from mineral weathering rather than stratified sediment layering, giving the hills their signature painted appearance. Visitors spend about 30 minutes walking around the area with guidance explaining the geological processes and visual characteristics.
The tour concludes after the visit to the Candy Cane Mountains. The return transfer to Baku takes 80 minutes, ending with drop-off at the hotel or selected meeting point.
