S’inspirant largement des racines culturelles de Kátai, le projet intègre des mélodies et des paroles folkloriques hongroises à des arrangements progressifs et des synthés luxuriants.Les albums de Thy Catafalque, acclamés par la critique, notamment Rengeteg, Meta, Naiv et Vadak, ont été salués pour leur originalité, leur ampleur musicale et leur profondeur émotionnelle. Le projet étant à l’origine une entreprise solo de Tamás Kátai en studio, les concerts sont relativement rares. Il a ensuite fondé le groupe doom CELESTIAL SEASON en 1991, l’un des groupes doom les plus populaires après Peaceville 3 à l’époque. 1996 marque sa rupture avec le métal et son épanouissement musical dans la musique électronique. 1998 voit la sortie du premier album de BONG-RA, suivi d’une Peel Session en 2002. S’ensuivent de nombreuses sorties sur des labels prestigieux.Après une pause de quelques années, avec des expérimentations musicales dans le Doom, l’Electronica et le Jazz.
