Atlanta’s Journey for Civil Rights
This powerful bike tour connects the dots between slavery, segregation, and the systemic inequities that persist today. Along the way, we’ll visit the birth home and final resting place of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and stand on the ground where the 1906 Atlanta Race Massacre unfolded.
We’ll roll through Reynoldstown, a neighborhood founded by formerly enslaved people, and explore communities built by freedpeople—past churches where movements were born and monuments that challenge us to keep pushing forward.
At the site of the 1906 massacre, we’ll uncover how this violent eruption of white supremacy forced Black business owners to relocate, ultimately giving rise to the Historic Sweet Auburn Business District—celebrated by the 1950s as the richest Black street in the nation. In Sweet Auburn, we’ll stop outside Dr. King’s birth home, his final resting place, and the iconic Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he preached and led with unwavering purpose.
At the Georgia State Capitol, we’ll examine how the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling threatened Atlanta’s white power structure, prompting a strategic doubling down on Jim Crow policies. We’ll also reflect on the Capitol’s statues—where symbols of oppression and progress stand side by side, revealing the ongoing tension between the past and the promise of justice.
Throughout the tour, we’ll lift up the stories of Black leaders who paved the way for Dr. King—visionaries whose courage and sacrifice laid the groundwork for the modern Civil Rights Movement.
We invite guests to be part of the conversation, ask questions, and learn from one another during this immersive, thought-provoking experience. Come ready to listen, reflect, and engage
