Day 1: Baku – Shamakhi – Ismayilli – Lahij – Gabala – Sheki
Depart Baku in the morning and drive to Shamakhi, one of Azerbaijan’s most historic towns. Visit the Shamakhi Juma Mosque, the oldest mosque in the Caucasus. Stop at the Diri Baba Mausoleum, a mysterious tomb built into a rock cliff.
Drive through the Ismayilli forest region, enjoying fresh mountain air and greenery. Cross the suspension bridge and continue to the mountain village of Lahij, known for its cobbled streets and handicraft workshops. After exploring Lahij, continue to Gabala.
Take a peaceful walk around Nohur Lake, surrounded by forested mountains. Visit the Tufandag Mountain Resort for panoramic views (optional cable car ride). Arrive in Sheki by evening and stay overnight in a local hotel or caravanserai-style inn.
Day 2: Sheki – Kish – Georgia Border (Optional)
Begin your morning with a guided tour of Sheki, one of Azerbaijan’s most culturally rich cities. Visit the iconic Sheki Khan’s Palace, known for its stained-glass windows and intricate carvings. Explore the Sheki Caravanserai and learn about its Silk Road history.
Head to the nearby Kish village to see the Albanian Church, believed to be one of the oldest Christian temples in the Caucasus. After lunch, you have two options: return to Baku or continue towards the Azerbaijan–Georgia border at Balakan or Lagodekhi, where third-country nationals can cross and reach Tbilisi, just 2 hours away by car or bus.
