On our “Ansättenfjäll Tour,” each guest rides exclusively with 10-12 huskies to reach the high mountains. From our Taikuri Farm in the picturesque mountain village of Bakvattnet, we drive through the snow-covered spruce forest for just a few kilometers to reach the breathtaking Ansättenfjäll. At the first bend in the road, we can already see Lake Stor Bakvattnet far below us. Our path continues upwards, past gnarled, old, small birch trees, until we reach the tree line and the wide plateau of Ansättenfjäll.
When the visibility is good, we can see far into the Norwegian mountains from here, while the Ansätten rises majestically directly in front of us.
The fell shows us different faces on different days. Sometimes birch and spruce trees bend under the weight of heavy snow to form unusual sculptures, sometimes everything seems to be covered in frost, as if dusted with icing sugar, and on other days it is windy and the fine snow sweeping across the snow-covered ground gives you the feeling of being in a completely unreal world – no two tours are the same. On the way back from our approx. 15-20 km tour down through the winter forest to Stor Bakvattnet, we marvel at a whole new perspective: an imposing Ansätten towers far above the village, hard to believe that we were riding along at its foot just a short time ago. Back at the Taikuri farm, the dogs are the first to receive a well-deserved snack and are sent off to their runs with plenty of pats before we enjoy a Swedish fika with coffee/tea and pastries by the fire.
