Walk the streets and alleys with a Gettysburg Licensed Town Guide and hear the stories of the civilians who lived through these violent days as the battle spilled into the town of Gettysburg. The citizens first heard the sounds of combat in the morning of July 1, but it was not until later that afternoon that the fighting enveloped the town. Union soldiers ran for their lives with the Confederates on their heels, and fighting flared through the town’s narrow streets. Those civilians who stayed, initially hid in their cellars, but many emerged to assist the hundreds of wounded in make-shift hospitals throughout the town.

You will walk through streets where the combat occurred. The guide will also stop in front of many of the hospital sites during the tour and tell stories of the soldiers and civilians. These events will come alive through the vivid storytelling of the guide.
