Local Law 196 requires all workers performing construction or demolition at major jobsites in NYC to hav a Site Safety Training (SST) card.
  
To earn an SST card, you must attend 40 hours of training: 10-SST and OSHA 30. That OSHA 30 must be less than 5 years old to count towards your SST card. IF your OSHA card is older than 5 years, it can not count towards a new SST card UNLESS you also take this 8-hour class. Attending this 8-hour training “refreshes” your OSHA card in the DOB system and allows it to count towards a new SST card. This class does NOT actually earn you a new OSHA card; it merely allows your old OSHA card to be credited towards a new SST card.
  
If you have a valid SST card and renew it before the 5-year expiration date, you will never need to refresh your OSHA. If your SST card has expired, it can not be renewed. To earn a new SST card after your card expires, you need 18 hours of training: 10-hour SST and this 8-hour OSHA “Refresher.”
