Hello! Does the thought of writing and telling a true story in front of a live audience thrill you– but you haven’t had the chance or known how to go about it?
A true story can be small. It doesn’t have to be about something super dramatic or tragic, but can be plucked from the everyday interactions in our lives. The ordinary can be extraordinary.
Telling a story about some aspect of your life after crafting it into shape is a powerful adventure into self-expression, risk-taking and courage. Stories help us understand more about what we all have in common and what connects us in our shared humanity.
In TrueStory, a new workshop and live storytelling collaboration, join theater Scoundrel and Scamp and professional storyteller Elaine Gale, to learn to craft a story both for the page and for the stage.
First, we’ll meet for four weeks to pick out a story from the vast curation of your life experiences. Next, we will shape it into beats. Finally, we’ll work on the telling of the story. The workshop will culminate in a live reading at the Scoundrel and Scamp stage Wednesday, February 4th.
TrueStory Workshop
When: Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:45 p.m. Workshop sessions are on Jan13th, Jan 20th, Jan 27th, Feb 2nd, and Feb 3rd, with a final performance on February 4th, Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Cost: $295
Who: For Scoundrels ages 18+
Location: January 13th-27th classes will take place on Zoom, February 2nd-4th will be at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre at The Historic Y738 N 5th Avenue #131, Tucson, AZ, 85705
The main entrance is located off the parking lot of The Historic Y; the parking lot entrance is accessed from 5th Avenue.
