New Year, New Hoots! Comedy Show Fundraiser

Get ready for New Year, New Hoots!

Get ready for a comedy variety show for a good cause featuring the improvisational talents of Cville’s Bent Theatre Comedy and the wits and wisdom of stand-up comedian, Nathan Carlson. All proceeds of this fundraising event will be sent directly to the Embodiment Lab at Virginia Tech to help pay for a neuroscience humor research study on military veterans with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

About the comedic acts:

Bent Theatre Comedy has been central Virginia’s source for improv comedy since 2004, providing shows, classes, training, teambuilding and so much more. Each show is unique because “You say it and we play it,” meaning performers will take audience suggestions and turn them into unscripted and hilarious scenes—ensuring an evening of laughter!

Nathan Carlson hails from rural Virginia. He has performed at many comedy clubs and festivals in addition to cross-country tours with Jokes and Jester Comedy. With his universally relatable Dad content, he is sure to leave you laughing and wanting more!

Heather Winslow has been performing stand-up and improv since 2011 and has been producing shows since 2019. She is a mom, wife, and Interdisciplinary PhD student at Virginia Tech studying how humor can help the brain. She runs the non-profit, The Laughing Brain Initiative, using science-backed methods to create programs that use humor and storytelling to help connect communities through laughter and catharsis.
