Celebrate The West Is
A photo essay and interview by Ian Warren, featured in Mad Agriculture Journal Issue 14

Join Mad Agriculture for an evening of beef, rodeo culture, and regenerative agriculture through photography and storytelling at the National Western Stock Show.

Featuring The West Is, a photo essay and interview by Denver-based photographer Ian Warren, this event brings together Mad Agriculture, Ian Warren, Corrida Cattle Company, Corrida Boulder, The Stockton Restaurant, and Dry Land Distillers to explore the contemporary West as it is lived and worked today. Warren’s portraits and landscapes are rooted in rodeo culture, rural labor, and place-based identity, offering a grounded perspective on a region shaped by land, animals, and the people who care for them.

The photographs from The West Is will be exhibited throughout the duration of the National Western Stock Show, inviting visitors to encounter the work within the living context of the event itself. The evening gathering offers a moment to come together around the work through conversation, food, and drink.

The event takes place inside the historic Livestock Exchange Building at the National Western Center, a landmark of Western commerce and culture that continues to evolve alongside the region itself. Once a center of livestock trade, the building now stands at the intersection of legacy and innovation, housing agriculture-forward businesses, land-based entrepreneurs, and cultural institutions shaping the future of the West.

Guests will gather over cocktails from Dry Land Distillers and beef-forward bites prepared by Corrida Boulder, featuring beef sourced from Corrida Cattle Company, while engaging with the work and conversation. Together, ranchers, riders, artists, writers, and community members will reflect on how storytelling shapes our understanding of land, labor, and stewardship.
