2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration- CENTER LAKE PARK at Center Lake Park – Oviedo, FL

Join the City of Oviedo and Oviedo Citizens in Action for a day of celebration for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Starting at 10am, the MLK Day Parade will leave Round Lake Park and end at the main parking lot at the intersection of Center Lake Lane and Oviedo Boulevard. Following the parade will be a family fun day from 11am-3pm at Center Lake Park. There will be a DJ, vendors, inflatables for the kids, food trucks and come watch skills and drills from 1p-3p! Dr. Irwin L. Hudson, also known as DrCoach, was born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi. Hampered by serious knee injuries in high school and college, he was forced to give up on his dreams of a collegiate or NBA career. Instead, Irwin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics, from Mississippi State University in 1991. After moving to Orlando, Florida in 1993, he quickly made his way back into basketball by working as a camp counselor for the Orlando Magic, University of Central Florida, and Rollins College.

In 1995, Coach Hudson founded one of the best basketball training businesses in the state of Florida–OrlandoHoops, Inc. After establishing himself as a worldwide leader in the industry, he began his AAU and high school basketball-coaching career in 1997. After coaching at several prominent schools in Orlando, he went back to college and earned a master’s degree in 2013 and a doctorate degree in 2016 in Modeling and Simulation from the College of Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF) with an overall GPA of 3.89. Hence, the name DrCoach was born. With over 35 years of experience as an systems engineer with the US Army Department of Defense, DrCoach uses his engineering skills to support his coaching and training.

As a parent and a coach, Dr. Hudson has lived the parent-colored glasses perspective from both sides and understands the damage that they are capable of inflicting on young student athletes. This is the main reason that he was compelled to author a book, create a podcast, and share his experiences with everyone in need of guidance while working their way through the madness of parenting athletes.
