The Orwellermen Sea Shanty Crew – A very special afternoon matinee where harmony is the best fun – The sounds of sea shanties and sounds of the sea!

“The Orwellemen are a rollicking Shanty Crew who throw open their arms—and their songbooks—to one and all”.

Whether you’re a seasoned sea dog with salt in your veins or a landlubber dipping your toes into maritime melodies, you’re heartily welcome. They host “Shanties at the Steamboat”, on the banks of the Orwell in Suffolk, where they belt out shanties and songs of the sea. Established in 2023 as a wellbeing group, they have established themselves on the local shanty circuit and in June 2025 were listed as one of the Saturday evening headliners at the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival.

Their performances are brimming with energy, and they’ll have you singing along in no time. Come for the songs, stay for the camaraderie!

Based on the banks of the River Orwell in Ipswich, Suffolk, they are a friendly, growing crew of men and women who love to sing traditional sea shanties and songs of the of sea and their priority is to enjoy themselves and to entertain their audiences.

In Sept 2022, with the Covid restrictions gone, skipper Gareth was inspired to start a sea shanty group, as a way to get men together to have fun making music and making friends.

Sea Shanties are fun to sing, they have easy melodies, repeated choruses which are easy to learn, and always sung at the top of your voice so it’s easy to hide if you are not used to singing in a group!

2025 has been a big year for the Orwellermen Sea Shanty Crew as they performed at the International Sea Shanty festival in Falmouth in June and will be performing at the Harwich Sea Shanty Festival in October.

This show is Reserved Seating – seats will be allocated on the day.
