2026 FronteraFest Short Fringe
The Short Fringe is five different shows a night, each 25 minutes or less. Five shows from this week’s Tuesday – Friday shows will be selected for the Saturday Best of Week shows.
Tonight’s shows:
DAMMIT LOLA on ICE, by CB Goodman and Roz Mandola. This DIY-crafty-punk-political-comedy team are back using humor to survive the political hell hole that is Texas. Absurd, irreverent, and filled with joyful mockery, DAMMIT LOLA on ICE aims to take the bastards down one laugh at a time.
Spyder Bytes, by Brian Wittenbrook. An out-of-work actress and movie “scream queen” gets the opportunity to represent a revolutionary technology that could change the world. To get the job, she may have to give up a souvenir, a part of Hollywood legend James Dean’s Porsche 550 Spyder—and something much more important to her. Spyder Bytes stars LB Deyo, Kelly Hasandras, Danu Mara, and Brian Wittenbrook.
MY Last Supper, by AveryAwakening Erickson. You never know what will flash before your eyes before death. You just never know.
An Oral History of the Beach Cabaret, by PoetKen Jones. An insider’s perspective on one of the most seminal clubs in Austin alternative music, featured on MTV’s Cutting Edge in 1985, home turf for legends as diverse as Daniel Johnston and Randy “Biscuit” Turner, and many, many more. PoetKen Jones was there as a poet and lead singer, befriending managers and musicians, bartenders and buskers, punks and patrons, now unlocking memories and memorabilia to share with old timers and newcomers alike before it’s too late.
Don’t Let the Sun Beat You Home, by Alex Tha Great. A one-woman theatrical choreopoem show which chronicles the personification of five of the most famous killers of black women: chronic illness, childbirth, stress, police violence, and suicide. There is a common nomenclature in African American households for young children playing outside that they should be in the house before the streetlights come on. Consequently, it says in scripture in Psalms 30:5 that weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning. The juxtaposition of those two popular ideals leads to this show. In essence, if you can just make it through the night, your reward will be plentiful on the other side of your morning/mourning. This excerpt from the full show—three of the five total acts—address themes of police violence, maternal mortality, and stress.
Pleaase note: we will not know whether all these shows are appropriate for those under 18 until noon on Tuesday, February 3. Call 512-479-7529 with questions, or email hydeparktheatre@gmail.com.
