His rhythmic drive and deep knowledge of blues and early jazz made him a sought-after collaborator during the swing era in New York and beyond.Returning to New Orleans later in life, Barker became a passionate cultural ambassador and mentor. In 1970 he founded the Fairview Baptist Church Brass Band, guiding and inspiring a new generation of musiciansincluding future stars of the citys brass band revival. Cynthia Sayer is an internationally acclaimed jazz banjoist and vocalist known for her vibrant stage presence and masterful command of the four-string banjo. A leading figure in traditional and swing jazz, she has performed at major festivals, concert halls, and clubs around the world, helping to redefine the banjo as a dynamic and expressive front-line instrument. Sayer has appeared on film and television soundtracks, toured extensively as a bandleader and soloist, and earned praise for both her virtuosic musicianship and engaging performances. In order to preserve the integrity, quiet and focus of our world class intimate concerts, only the charcuterie, cocktails and soft drinks are available for table service inside the Music Room. However, we encourage you to arrive at least 90 Minutes prior to your showtime in order to enjoy full, relaxing dinner service in the Dining Room right next door, before getting seated in the Music Room for your ticketed showtime.
