Seongwoo Jeong – Violist

Violist Seongwoo Jeong is a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) candidate at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami. He began studying the violin at the age of six and later earned his bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance from the Korea National University of Arts. Following his studies in Korea, Mr. Jeong moved to the United States, where he completed a master’s degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is currently pursuing his DMA at the Frost School of Music(Henry Mancini Institute Fellow).

Professionally, Mr. Jeong serves as the Violist of the Venice Symphony, the Guest Pricipal Violist of Vallejo Symhony Orchestra(Califonia) and has extensive experience as a competition adjudicator, including the 2025 Concert Star International Classical Music Competition at Carnegie Hall, as well as roles with America Youth Talent International Music Competition (2024), the Young Talent Student Music Contest (2024), the San Francisco International Young Artist Music Competition (2023 & 2024), and the Canada Virtuoso Young Artist Music Competition (2023). He is the Artistic Director of the San Francisco International Young Artists Music Festival, Miami International music Festival. In 2023, he also participated as a guest artist and chamber coach at the Hawaii Chamber Music Festival, reflecting his dedication to mentoring the next generation of musicians.

Mr. Jeong is a highly accomplished performer with numerous international awards. His accolades include the Grand Prize and Prize Money at the Vancouver Gospel Music Festival in 2024, the Grand Prize and Audience Award at the Rocky Mountain Music Competition in 2022, and the 1st Prize and Grace Meng “US House of Representatives Award” at the New York International Music Competition in 2021. In 2020, he received the Grand Prize, Prize money, and HeeGon Kim “Korea Member of the National Assembly Award” at the GNMC in Korea, and in 2013, he earned the Outstanding Performance Prize at the Asia String Music Competition in Taiwan. Mr. Jeong has presented his signature “Seongwoo Recital” on ten occasions across South Korea, Mexico, Canada, and the United States, showcasing his artistry to international audiences.

A dedicated musician and educator, Mr. Jeong combines performance excellence with mentorship, consistently fostering young talent through his work as an adjudicator, teacher, and festival director. His contributions to the global music community reflect both his professional achievements and his commitment to the development of future generations of artists.
