Minnesota jewelry artist Andrea Turini brings audiences inside the living traditions of Czech glass and beadmaking. her presentation, Hierloom Fire: Czech Glasswork, draws on firsthand experiences in Jablonec nad Nisoe, a region long recognized as a world center of bead and button production. Turini will share about the evolution of the czech glass industry and its cultural significance, and demonstrate step-by-step how beads and buttons are made with samples for folks to explore from each stage of production.
After the presentation, folks can enjoy a one-hour hands-on jewelry design session! Each person will design a coordinating set of either Earrings & a Bracelet or Earrings and a Necklace. Participants can select from Andrea’s curated collection of authentic Czech glass beads to create their designs. Andrea will demonstrate design concepts and complete the technical finishing during the class.
The class is limited to 12 folks ages 12 and up. All class participants must also attend the presentation.
This program was awarded a Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) grant, recognizing its artistic and educational value. While the grant supports a tour in southeastern Minnesota, Andrea also offers the program to arts centers, libraries, cultural groups, and community organizations across the region.
