Facilitated by: Rebecca Higgins (she/her), MSW, Mental Health Educator
In this engaging, interactive session, we will begin by discussing why change can be difficult and by normalizing the experience of struggling with uncertainty. We will reflect on our own responses in the face of change. The remainder of the session will be focussed on practical strategies for coping with change. We will investigate and practice simple, applicable strategies that can be implemented both inside and outside of work to shore up our capacity to navigate life’s waves. Take-away tools and resources for further reading will be provided.
By the end of this session, participants should be able to:
notice and identify their own responses to change
name the 5A skill areas for coping with change
understand how to implement at least one wellness practice or strategy for each of the 5 A’s
Rebecca Higgins has worked in community and social services for over 23 years, specializing in mental health education since 2010. In addition to designing and facilitating workshops, she served as a panelist and presenter at conferences, delivered keynote speeches on mental health, and provided consultation support to community mental health initiatives.
Before becoming an independent mental health educator in 2018,
Rebecca produced and delivered curricula, training, and resources for the Canadian Mental Health Association (Ottawa and Toronto branches) and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
Rebecca has lived and worked in Ireland, Honduras and Brazil. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work and a BA in English, and; her first book, a collection of short stories called The Colours of Birds, was published by Tightrope Books in 2018.
