Discover the heartbeat of Baku on a guided 3–4 hour overview walking tour that takes you through the city’s rich past and vibrant present. This introductory city tour is designed to give you a comprehensive impression of both historic and modern Baku.
The journey begins in the Old City (Icherisheher), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where medieval walls, narrow alleys, caravanserais, and mosques tell stories from centuries ago. Walking through this historic maze, you’ll feel the atmosphere of ancient Baku while your guide shares historical facts, local legends, and cultural insights. Please note: the tour does not include entrances to museums or paid attractions; all sights are viewed from the outside.
Exiting the Old City through the Double Gates, the tour continues along Nizami Street, the city’s most popular pedestrian avenue. Here, you’ll experience the lively atmosphere with its boutiques, cafés, and architectural landmarks, while your guide explains how Baku developed into a modern, cosmopolitan city.
From there, we head to the famous Seaside Boulevard, one of the longest waterfront promenades in the world. Along the way, you’ll see the unique Carpet Museum from the outside, designed in the shape of a rolled-up carpet, and see Little Venice, a charming and photogenic area inspired by Italian canals.
Next, we take the funicular up to Highland Park, where you’ll enjoy one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the city. From here, you can admire Baku Bay, the Caspian Sea, and the skyline crowned by the iconic Flame Towers. Your guide will explain their symbolism and the role they play in modern Baku.
This overview walking tour is a perfect introduction to Baku for first-time visitors and a refreshing experience for returning travelers. It focuses on sightseeing, storytelling, and orientation rather than museum visits, helping you understand the city’s history, culture, and contrasts while discovering the best photo spots along the way.
