Included in your exhibition ticket: Guided tour: The secret cellars
Experience the secret Carlsberg cellars

J.C. Jacobsen had many reasons for locating his brewery on Valby Hill. The site offered both access to clean water and the possibility of digging deep cellars where the beer could be stored appropriately.
The historic beer cellars from 1847, therefore, take centre stage on this guided tour at Home of Carlsberg.

The tour begins with a glass of beer in hand and takes you past J.C. Jacobsen’s Villa before moving 14 metres underground. Although the cellars have since been restored, the historic atmosphere remains intact, offering a rare glimpse into the past work of the brewery’s workers and the vital role the cellars played in the brewery’s operation.

The cellars contain several fascinating rooms, each with its own story, historical artefacts, and dramatic anecdotes about family conflicts, the brewery’s development, and the people behind the Carlsberg Brewery.

We look forward to taking you on a journey through Carlsberg’s history and offering a unique insight into J.C. Jacobsen’s ever-burning pursuit of perfection – Semper Ardens.
