⭐ What to Expect
Your guide will meet you at the Jonkershoek entrance gate before driving deeper into the spectacular valley framed by towering peaks. After a route and safety briefing, the trail begins with a steady climb that soon turns into a steep, rugged ascent up a rocky gully.
This section gains over 1,000 meters of elevation in a relatively short distance, making it one of the more demanding climbs in the reserve — but also one of the most scenic and rewarding. Your guide will set a safe, sustainable pace with regular rest stops and plenty of time to enjoy the views.
Once on the high ridge, the route opens up to sweeping panoramic views of the Stellenbosch mountains, deep gorges, and vast fynbos-covered slopes.
The descent leads you past the beautiful Berg River Saddle, offering spectacular views into the pristine Assegaibos Kloof Valley, through which the Berg River flows — a highlight for photographers and nature lovers.
The trail then curves back into the valley, completing a dramatic and memorable circular loop through one of the Cape’s most impressive reserves.
