Discover Kiruna’s unique story on a 2h guided city tour that reveals both its historic roots and bold transformation into a new city.
Pick up at your hotel in the city center with our vehicle. We begin with a panoramic drive through the old town center, an area now being gradually demolished due to the expansion of the iron ore mine. From the vehicle, you will see the remnants of streets and buildings that once formed the heart of Kiruna — today a striking reminder of the city’s transition. Along the way, we also stop at the Monument of the Ancient Miners, honoring those whose work laid the foundation for Kiruna’s development.
Next, we visit Hjalmar Lundbohmsgården, the home of Kiruna’s founder and first managing director of LKAB, offering a fascinating glimpse into the origins of the city and the man who shaped it.
We then continue to the new city center, where modern architecture blends with northern traditions. Here you will explore the new Town Hall (City Hall), an impressive building that has quickly become a symbol of Kiruna’s future.
The tour also includes a visit to the Kiruna Museum, which shares stories of the region’s people, culture, and lifestyle.
Finally, the tour concludes with a stop outside the newly relocated Kiruna Church, one of Sweden’s largest wooden buildings and a cherished landmark. Originally built in 1912, the church was carefully moved to preserve its historic and cultural value during the city’s relocation. And return to the hotel.
This experience gives you a rare opportunity to see Kiruna’s past and future side by side — from the heritage of miners and pioneers to the city’s bold new vision.
