Before the active period of 1968, lush vegetation covered the volcano. People who climbed the Arenal used to say that inside the crater there were big trees and at night these people slept in places where there was some heat due to small steam outlets.

Your adventure will begin on the trails of Arenal Volcano National Park with an approximate distance of 3.1 miles with a variety of vegetation from primary and secondary forests. One of the best ways to see the Arenal Volcano is from this point. While walking, you will have the opportunity to observe a variety of plants, wildlife, volcanic rock formations and Lake Arenal. Its actually a historic walk to learn about the Colossus of Arenal which has a direct influence on the economy and local culture.

The hike is designed for the entire family with not a lot of ups and downs, but the goal is to arrive at a Dry Lava Field, (this is the rocky part). It is a 6 kilometer hike on the base of the volcano and the most important for the tour.
