Experience one of Mexico’s most important and beautiful traditions, Día de Muertos in Mexico City, visiting the original neighborhoods of Tláhuac and Mixquic with their cultural treasures.

Discover a unique experience that will take you to the heart of one of Mexico’s most emblematic traditions: Día de Muertos.

We begin in Tláhuac, where we will visit the Archaeological Museum and the Regional Museum, spaces that preserve the ancestral memory of the Valley of Mexico, with pieces from the Aztec cultures of the region. Here you will learn about the pre-Hispanic origins of the Day of the Dead celebration, its symbols, and its evolution over time. You will also visit the colonial church and convent of San Pedro Tláhuac. (This activity does not take place on November 2 because more time is dedicated to the lighting in Mixquic).

You will enjoy local folk art in murals, decorations, and skulls that set the scene for the great Day of the Dead festivities in the local neighborhoods.

You will also visit the colonial churches of San Andrés Mixquic, heir to the strongest Day of the Dead tradition in the city, and visit its cemetery, where you will learn about the importance of the Day of the Dead celebration, with its places steeped in history and deeply linked to the spiritual life of these communities since pre-Hispanic times, through the colonial era, and to the present day.

In Mixquic, on November 2, you will experience La Alumbrada en el Cementerio (The Lighting of the Cemetery), bidding farewell to the dead and the souls of the ancestors. You will have the opportunity to explore its famous cemetery, where the tombs are decorated with flowers, candles, and offerings. As night falls, the cemetery becomes a moving and luminous spectacle, where families mourn their deceased with food and prayer in a deeply respectful and lively atmosphere. (Only applies on November 2, night event).
