Newport represents the cradle of our independence from the revolution through the Gilded Age up to and including the growth and beauty of our City by the Sea. While strolling you will experience the art and architecture of many of the aged buildings, learn about the pirates who were a significant part of Newport, the merchants who traveled to the Caribbean to import sugar cane for distillation into rum which became the largest and most lucrative export, the importance of the seaport to our economy the naval academy, the building of Fort Adams following the revolution and hearing about the mansions of the Gilded Age. During this tour you will experience five different restaurants offering one of their specialties, learn about their beginning and their culinary creations. Be sure to bring your appetite.
