We pick you up at your Location. During your trip the guide a third generation South African will tell you many stories relating to the areas visited and South African history. Shane is also the author of the book White Boy that is a biography of a white boy growing up in the apartheid era.
Our first stop is Soweto approximately 30 minutes from Johannesburg. Our stop is in Vilakazi street where we visit Nelson Mandela’s home that has been converted into a museum. In the same street is Bishop Desmond Tutu’s house as well. This is a private residence now so we just drive past for interest sake. A visit to the Hector Peterson Memorial where the protests took place by the youth in 1976. A quick drive through Soweto gives you an idea of how things have changed for the better in the township.
Our next stop is the Apartheid museum but along the route we also show you the world cup soccer stadium where the final was played in 2010.
The Apartheid museum is arguably the most visited museum in South Africa, a 2 to 3 hour visit is required.
Next is our new constitutional court and the prison that MR. Mandela and Ghandi spent time in.
