At the appointed time, we’ll meet at the Monumento a los Raqueros, one of the most iconic spots on Santander’s seafront promenade. From this symbolic point, we’ll start our free tour of the Cantabrian capital.
We’ll start by walking to the Pereda Gardens, where we’ll admire the avant-garde Botín Center, designed by Renzo Piano. From here, you’ll enjoy some of the best views of the bay, a real must-see in the city.
Then we’ll tour the area of the widening, discovering how Santander grew and remembering some of the most difficult chapters in its history, such as the fire of 1941, whose consequences forever marked the urban layout.
Our walk will take us to the Cathedral of Santa María de la Asunción, where we’ll learn about its architectural details and talk about the relics of the patron saints kept inside.
We’ll then head over to other must-visits, such as the Town Hall or the Mercado de la Esperanza, the historic Central Market, ideal for understanding the Cantabrian culinary wealth. We’ll also pass through Plaza Porticada, the Mercado del Este, and the old Banco Mercantil, located in one of the most notable areas of the center.
After two hours of discovering the essence, history, and charms of Santander, we’ll wrap up the tour in Plaza Pombo
