Explore the last Ice Age at The Mammoth Site! Join in the self-guided experience of our unique discovery of a prehistoric sinkhole first uncovered in 1974, with the largest concentration of Columbian mammoth remains in the world! This self-guided tour first takes visitors through a brief history of The Mammoth Site with a 10-minute introductory video in the Cirincione Learning Center, followed by a self-guided tour around the actual Bonebed utilizing a QR code-based system for the information, concluding with a walk through the Joe Muller Exhibit Hall which houses exhibits of the last Ice Age in the Black Hills and around the world. Visitors receive a truly immersive experience on their journey through the Ice Age at The Mammoth Site.

This National Natural Landmark is an internationally renowned indoor working paleontological site/museum. More than 60 mammoths have been unearthed, as well as over 85 other species of associated Ice Age fauna. Hands-on activities for children and an educational experience for the entire family. One of the top fossil interpretive sites in North America.
